And you can tell it’s an older design because the USB connector is awkwardly located deep at the bottom of the centre storage compartment as opposed to the Jeep’s which has the connector (as well as an SD slot) tucked away conveniently below the air conditioning controls. Oh, it’s well laid out ergonomically - the centre console’s buttonry is easily decipherable, for instance - but the actual execution looks bargain-basement compared with the Jeep product and the Hyundai Santa Fe. Compared with Jeep’s Cherokee, at least in the fully-trimmed North guise that we tested, the Equinox’s interior feels dated. The interior décor, however, is starting to show its age. Compared with most other small faux-by-fauxes, the Chevy has plenty of rear-seat legroom (certainly more than the CR-V) and rear seats that offer plenty of fore and aft adjustability.
